Liz & Tamer and ten of their closest friends & family gathered together this past Thursday for an incredible elopement style wedding in New York City. Liz and her mom got ready with just the two of them together in her Excelsior Hotel suite, as Tamer and his brother were just a few floors away doing the same thing. Liz's mom helped her with her pearl necklace and adjusted her veil. And then the two of them hopped in a limo bound for the absolutely stunning Riverside Church, but not before saying one more prayer together in the car.
When Liz walked down the aisle on her mom's arm, Tamer stood at the front absolutely beaming. Of course he did, he was looking at the love of his life. The two of them vowed their vows and promised their promises, and when they came back down the aisle... the happy tears flowed without stopping.
Outside the church, a classic NYC checker cab was waiting. And after a few portraits with it, we were off to Central Park where their own personal violinist was waiting to play their first dance in the Bethesda Terrace. It was amazing! Then we took our time taking portraits all around the best parts of the Park: the Bethesda Fountain, the Bow Bridge, and we finished up with a gondola ride at the Boathouse. It was the perfect New York day!
Liz & Tamer we just can't thank you enough for loving like you do. For loving each other and being just so happy together. And for loving everyone around with that same kind of warmth and welcoming. This was our first time meeting in person, but we felt like we had known you for years. You are people that we now consider friends. Thank you for sharing real life with us. And the start of a lifetime of amazing adventures. Thank you for trusting us completely and giving us the time we needed to create art. Thank you for never once rushing and for always being in the moment. And for making the pictures a priority. We were able to get some of our most favorite pictures EVER because of that...and we can't thank you enough. We will remember our day together in NYC forever. And my hope is that you love always just like you did that day: fully, completely, with your whole heart, and with the kind of love they should make movies about. Preferably, set in Central Park! :)
Shayna & Ross were married this past Saturday on a gorgeous NYC day! The day before, right before their rehearsal dinner, the skies opened up and the rain poured down. But it was almost as if the weather itself was just getting it out of its system, so that it could shine down beautiful golden light and deliver the perfect, breezy day for the wedding. And that's exactly what they got!
Shayna got ready in her suite at The James Hotel, surrounded by her friends & sisters. There was laughter, and iced lattes, and stories of the house they shared together in New Orleans while they were at Tulane. And through it all, Shayna was all smiles & pure calm. When it came time to put on the dress, she lingered just a little longer....taking in the fact that this was her wedding dress. And it was all about to become real. And as her sister Beryl (one of our amazing past J&M brides!) helped zip her up, there was no doubt that this dress was made for her!
And when Ross saw her for the first time at their First Look, I'm pretty sure he agreed! :) These two met up right outside of their venue, Tribeca 360, and then we all headed up to rooftop for portraits. And my favorite part about that was that the wind was really whipping up there, and there was this one AMAZING moment where it picked up Shayna's veil and wrapped it perfectly around the two of them several times just as they were kissing. I LOVE that that moment really happened, that it got to be both authentic & iconic at the same time!
After the portraits we headed in for the family pictures, ketubah signing & ceremony. This part of the day was especially emotional as Shayna & Beryl lost their brother right after Beryl's wedding, and everyone was missing him so much right then. I think when you look through the lens at something it either has the power to draw you in closer to it like a magnifying glass would or to distance you and act as a barrier between you and them. A while back, I decided to always try for the first one. To be in the moment with people, to feel it with them. Happy or sad, whatever it is....to be ALL in. I think that day, everyone in the room had their heart breaking right along with these guys. But that was ok, because the tears just made the laughter all the more beautiful. These wedding days are not all smiles and pretty dresses and amazing details. They are these incredible slices of real life-both happy and broken- that we get to stand there and bear witness to. And it is truly one of the greatest honors of my life.
Shayna & Ross, had their first official date at Beryl & Michael's wedding a few years ago. And without even knowing it, we grabbed a picture of the two of them then that was blown up at the rehearsal dinner. I think there was just something about the way they loved and laughed together on that very first day that made us take notice. And years later, it still makes the world take notice. When people love like that, when they are the truest forms of themselves around each other, when they are happy just holding on to each other and light up in each other's presence, then the world should take notice. Because the truth is, the world needs more love just like that.
Shayna & Ross, we can't thank you enough for inviting us into your day and more importantly into your lives. Thank you for not being afraid to feel every part of it, the happy and the sad. Thank you for loving each other & everyone else lucky enough to come in contact with you. We love you guys & both of your families so much! And our hope for you both is that you love just like this...always.
As soon as we walked into the suite where Nandita was getting ready on Sunday, I knew it was going to be a good day. This room had incredible light and beautiful, elegant furniture. You photographers out there will feel me on that, that it just makes the day SO much better when everything just works right from the beginning! And that sort of became the theme for the day....everything just flowed so easy and everything was so, SO beautiful with great light!
Nan & Georgio are honestly a DREAM of a couple! They are all the things we look for in our ideal J&M couples & love about them.....they are first & foremost, SO in love! Their joy is the kind of happiness that fills a room, even one as big as Gotham Hall. Their love is bigger. It fills up ever corner & every heart that it touches. And it just makes you happier that love is a thing that exists in this world. Secondly, and almost just as important to why they are such a dream couple, these guys trust us completely! Ahhh I can't tell you how much life that breathes into us. To have the freedom to shoot it however we see it, and for them to be down for anything if it means good pictures! Brides out there, I can't tell you how much that does for your photographers! Us creative types do our best work when you allow us to...create!! :) Nan & Georgio, thank you SO much for giving us the time & the freedom to create art and tell stories, not just a list of "supposed to" shots! We fell more in love with photography, and more in love with, well...love, because of you.
Besides all the reasons that we loved the day, N&G just had what you would call a textbook perfect wedding day! Gorgeous, not too hot, breezy weather, a huge gathering of friends & family who love them dearly, a heartfelt, emotional ceremony, amazing dancing and a super fun party, hugs, laughter, happy tears, and one of the most emotional father-daughter dances I've ever witnessed. I usually get a little teary behind the camera, but this was the first time in while where I had to take a deep breath & pull it together! Throw into the mix greek dancing, classic black tie plus a white dinner jacket outfit change, a dress the bride designed herself and had custom made (with optional lengths! :) the insanely beautiful backdrop that is Gotham Hall, and a super talented team of creatives that was a JOY to work with....and honestly, it just doesn't get any better than that!
N&G, we love you guys to the moon & back! I hope you are sipping something fruity in Mexico, but when you get back we have a date for wine tasting on Long Island! Because you guys are now officially our Clients Turned Friends....for life!!
So we were supposed to share Rene & John's stunning Robison Mansion wedding yesterday, but our server was down all day. Apparently, we got a TON of traffic from our Nantucket pictures, and they shut us down! How rude, right?? :) We're still working out some kinks, but for the most part we're back up & running! So without further ado....Rene & John's big day!
These two were married this past Sunday, when every weather report was calling for thunderstorms all day. As we drove up to the mansion, there was thunder & lightning and we could see crazy big storms in either direction. But as the time for the ceremony approached, the clouds parted and bright, golden sunshine emerged. And it stayed that way all day!
Rene & John had an absolutely gorgeous pink-themed wedding and the flowers? The flowers were INCREDIBLE!! Rene is a photographer herself, so we had no doubt it was going to be amazing! Theirs was a day filled with family and thankfulness and DANCING....all the important things! And there were a few things that made their day extra special. The first is that Rene & John's First Kiss was their actual first kiss. So when that part in the ceremony came, everyone broke out into cheering and I've never heard that much glass clinking at a reception in my life! :) The other thing that made their day so amazing, was that you could just tell that everyone surrounding them was really pulling for them and this marriage. They believed in them. They believe in this life that they're starting together. And you could just tell that they are going to be cheering for them for the rest of their lives!
Rene & John, thank you SO much for inviting us in and making us such a part of your day. Thank you for hiring us before you were even officially engaged...what a HUGE honor that is! Thank you for sharing your love with us and your happiness. It was truly an honor to witness. And my hope is that you'll still be loving just like this for the next fifty years!
And ohhhhh is this ever a HAPPY day! I've been working alllll morning on this one & I am finally ready to show you the amazing day that Michelle & Matt had this past weekend at Migis Lodge in Maine. Let's just start by saying that it was supposed to POUR all. day. long. on these two. All day! And then.....golden sunshine! Beautiful warm golden sunshine from beginning to end. And their closest friends & family. And love. And laughter. And beautiful, jaw-dropping details from a powerhouse team of creatives led by the insanely talented MStarr Events. And more smiles. And love. And laughter. And the kind of day that makes you feel grateful to be a part of it and grateful for clients who love & trust you completely.
Michelle & Matt booked us over two years ago as one of the very first things they did in their planning, and as soon as we met them the first time we knew...they were our DREAM kind of couple. And that was just confirmed again and again all day with them on their wedding, including when they snuck away during their reception to come and personally thank each and every one of their creative team. They are grateful and gracious and carry themselves with so much grace. They are the kind of people who make everyone around them feel like the most important person in the room. And so that day, there were over a hundred of us who were just counting our blessings to be there to celebrate with them as they promised forever.
Michelle & Matt, there are no words that could ever thank you enough for being who you are. Your love is one for the ages and I know it will be inspiring the people who are lucky enough to come into your lives for generations to come. Just love like this always. The world needs your example.
