Ohhhhhh what could I ever say about this wedding that would ever properly do it justice?
Let's just start with this: Lauren is amazing. She's just one of those people that everybody falls in love with instantly. She has a light and a joy about her that you just want to be around as much as you can. It's infectious! When you're with her, you feel like you could take on the world....as long as she's there taking it on with you. Lauren is an incredibly talented in her own right, and we first met her a few years back when she came to one of our Walk Through a Wedding workshops in Chicago. Not too long after that, she told us that when the time came for her we had to be her wedding photographers. I secretly crossed my fingers & hoped that it would be true, because I couldn't imagine giving up that huge honor to anyone else!
Then there's Gary. For those of you who don't know, a little while back Lauren battled cancer. Like a warrior. She did the treatments, she lost her hair, she has the scars to this day to prove it. And never ever once did she stop smiling through it or complain. She was the brave face to the world....but Gary, Gary was the quiet rock that she was standing on. Throughout the vows and the ceremony and toast after toast, we heard stories of how Gary never left her side. Of how he was at every single treatment. And how he always made her feel like the most beautiful girl in the world, even when she didn't feel like it. See, Gary's love is not the fleeting, when things are good kind of love. His is a love that will last forever whatever comes their way. Because it already has. And we all love him for that.
Lauren & Gary together are a Kenny Chesney song and a cold beer on a beach somewhere. They are a comfy couch and a blanket, cuddled up with their dog Goose. They are rooftop deck sitting and cheek to cheek slow dancing. They are not letting the microwave timer run all the way out and leaving socks out laying around. They are lightning fast witty banter and they challenge and push each other to be their best. They live in every moment to its fullest. They are the kind of friends who love with their whole heart.
A couple of days ago, on the cliffs of Antigua, they promised forever and they promised right now, they promised every second. Surrounded by forty of their closest friends & family, they laughed and cried and they laughed some more. They slow danced and fast danced....and serious face dance off danced. They strung bistro lights- five hundred and forty seven of them- and they warmed their faces in their glow. They sat at tables, decorated to perfection by people who love them so much that they flew in just to take care of it. And when the party was really getting going, a flash mob of all their guests broke out and surprised them. Because with people like Lauren & Gary, you just find a way to teach forty people from all over the country how to spontaneously do the same dance at the same time. There was never any question.
L&G, we love you to the moon & back and to Antigua & back. I will never EVER be able to tell you what a humbling, HUGE honor it was for us to be there with you and your amazing friends & family who made us feel like just part of the crew. I still can't believe it happened. Lauren, I am SO proud of you. Gary, I am SO thankful for you and how you love without fail. If I have my way, you guys will ALWAYS be in our lives. And we will vacation in Antigua & go to Kenny Chesney concerts until we are old & wrinkly together. My prayer for you both is that sixty years from now, you will still be dancing cheek to cheek. And when you look at each other you'll still smilie & say....
I don't see how you could ever be, anything but mine.
We shot Ashley & Jeremy's Silverbrook Farm wedding back in October, the day before our own anniversary actually! And we've kept them off the blog until they were featured over on Southern Weddings!! That feature is officially live so now we can share with you our full post recap of their incredible day.
So how do I even go about putting into words what it was like to shoot their wedding? Let's start with the fact that they are now some of our best friends. We have had the absolute honor to document some of their biggest moments over the years, from their "engagement shoot" at the sunrise shoot out to their elopement in Vegas, to now the big party or what came to be known as #mitchellstaketwo. And we fully expect to be the ones who get to document their 50th anniversary party too! I'm just sayin.
Ashley & Jeremy are some of the most giving, thoughtful, above & beyond friends I could have ever asked for. They constantly push me to be a better person. To think kinder, to always look at the positive, to be the kind of friend who just shows up. My life hasn't been the same since these two came into it, and to watch them promise their lives to each other was one (wait, two!) of the happiest moments of my life.
Ash & Jer, I fully expect to be old & wrinkly with you guys. And to still be going on adventures. Thank you for letting us be part of the ride. Your love will inspire a generation.
Welcome back!! And now for the full post from Emily & Tolga's stunning Branford House winter wedding! These two had an incredible day, with just the perfect amount of snow falling during the portraits to make everything feel like a dream! Between that and the candlelit ceremony and the Thai lanterns at the end, theirs was the kind of day people dream of! And we especially loved Emily's Vera Wang gown, those stunning & sophisticated bridesmaids dresses, and Tolga's bespoke tuxedo & velvet tie! Enjoy!!
I have been counting down the days until we could post this wedding up!! Not only because it was our last wedding of 2013 and we got to go out with a bang, but also because it is one of our favorite weddings of ALL time. Like I've mentioned on here a few times before, we are in the process of working on our new brand. And if there is one wedding that could embody the vibe of everything we've been working on for it, this would be it! Classic, enduring, nostalgic, TONS of great black & whites, that subtle "old hollywood" vibe, sophisticated & understated, romantic, authentic, and editorial meets photojournalistic. In short, we were in heaven.
Elisabeth & William are two of the most beautiful hearts we've ever met, and they come with two of the most appreciative, kind and welcoming families we've ever had the honor of meeting. The whole day we were treated like part of the party, and at the end of the night even the bridesmaids hugged us goodbye. I cannot think of a better wedding to end this incredible whirlwind adventure of a year on!
E&W, we feel so lucky that you guys came into our lives. Your love is one for the ages. And what I wish for you, is that you will love just like this. Always.
Get ready to start this week right because OHH do we have a gorgeous wedding for you today....Indhu & Greg's Miami wedding at the Biltmore Hotel & Fairchild Botanical Gardens!! We were lucky enough to meet Indhu & Greg through phenomenal wedding planner, Belle Manjong of B. Belle Events. We met Belle earlier this year when I got to be the keynote speaker at the WV Weddings Extravaganza. Belle was the featured planner there & helped style the whole event. Right away we fell in love with her, her heart, and the light that surrounds her. As soon as she heard our story, our Why, and our take on weddings, she told us she had the perfect couple for us & man, was she right! Indhu & Greg are two of the kindest people we have ever had the honor of photographing. They are just good people down to the core, and the kind of people you just want to hang out with on a Friday night, going wine tasting and discovering cool new restaurants (yea I invent entire double date scenarios with our couples!)
We flew down to Miami on a weekend where it was threatening to rain, but Indhu & Greg had the most perfect day. Cool & breezy and not a rain drop in sight (even though it was apparently pouring across town!) The whole day was full of color, both in the flowers and details of the wedding....and in the way that everyone there loved out loud. With it pouring out of them and onto the page, creating a canvas of heritage, family, generations, and loving people as much as you can while there still right here with you. The kind of love where just one color isn't enough (sorry Taylor Swift, it wasn't just Red). So you use them all, the brighter the better. Because you never want to forget.
Indhu & Greg, we can't thank you enough for your love, your friendship, and your hearts. Just keep loving like this forever. It will always guide the way.
