Jamie Thank you SO much for this post! I love it. I love how the work you did really paid off- even years down the road. Super encouraging, and thank you for the tips as well. As a newer photographer this is AWESOME information.  Jul 2, 2012, 11:48am

Christa What an awesome post! What a great idea to create a sample album...love your creativity to get your name out there. I've been working on ideas all winter that are just coming into play now...so true about the seeds just needing time :)  Jun 28, 2012, 11:13am

Joe Don Richardson Thank you so much for putting the time and effort into this post. It means so much and keep those pancakes coming.  Jun 28, 2012, 8:05am

Faye Bernoulli I TOTALLY needed this post today-- I was just thinking about how I want to go full time with wedding photography sooo bad, but I know I need to be patient (horrible farmers unite? haha). We booked our first wedding because of a freebie portrait session of a coworker's daughter...we've grown from there, but I'm ready to snowball! :)  Jun 27, 2012, 8:20pm

Lea Ciceraro Thank you! This is so very timely and helpful for me!!  Jun 27, 2012, 6:58pm

yumiko And I'm so happy and proud to say that I knew you way back when~ working with you on Alana and Dan's wedding!!!  Jun 27, 2012, 5:32pm

ashley barnett This is awesome! It's one of my favorite things to look back and see how everyone found us- I want to make a "tree" to really delve into it more because it's fascinating to me! A follow-up question- we really, REALLY want to start shooting more destination (not necessarily tropical, just outside of our home area), how did you best leverage the WOM you guys have to clinch those destination weddings? Did you ever shoot a wedding for cost of travel only to get that ball rolling? How did you go about putting into the universe that you were looking to begin shooting destination?  Jun 27, 2012, 3:26pm

Tira J Such an awesome Pancake Session Mary! And this is SO TRUE! I had the opportunity to speak at one of our local SMUG events last week about starting your photography business correctly. When it came to referrals and taking care of clients, one of the things I mentioned was that it takes TIME to build this business, one client at a time. None of this has happened overnight. I have many seeds that are planted in my "client garden" and it most definitely takes time for them to get "fertilized", but IT DOES WORK!!!! Hugs to you & Justin! xoxo  Jun 27, 2012, 2:55pm

Francie Loooove it!!! How cool?! You guys have some really great tips for other pros- but some awesomeness, like Justin and Mary awesomeness, can't be learned!! There's more behind spiraling web of people that LOVE You two and are OBSESSED with your work ;) You totally exemplify the "it" factor! Keep on workin' IT!  Jun 27, 2012, 2:31pm

Abbey See, that's why we love you Mary!!!!! Thank you soo much for this. This very topic has been on my mind lately. I just have to have faith that all the hard work and time will hopefully produce many branches!!!!  Jun 27, 2012, 2:06pm

Elizabeth I recently just shot a bridal shower for my co-worker and I was so happy for the opportunity! I learned alot from my "first" job!! I also learned from mistakes too and could kick myself in the butt for them, but hey we gotta learn....like you said, if opportunties arise, take them if you want them! I sure am glad I did. I know one of my biggest issues is getting out there and introudcting myself, sometimes I feel so silly for doing that! Don't know if anyone else feels that way! that is my biggest problem!  Jun 27, 2012, 2:06pm

Amanda Truth Wow!!! Great story, great tips, GREAT inspiration! You guys rock. It's amazing how just one wedding can explode!  Jun 27, 2012, 1:54pm
